Coach of the Year
Dave Miller was nominated by the club for the Australian Football Coaches Association - Coach of the Year (Youth Category)……….and WON.!!!
Dave was presented with his award at the AFCA Gala Dinner in front of 280 people from a multitude of footy clubs in the area, from within and outside of the Yarra League.
The award honoured him for his commitment to the same team at Surrey for 6 years (including 2 premierships), for his role as Coach’s Coordinator, for his work with the U/15 Interleague side, and his general approach to coaching, his skills and his preparation.
It was a wonderful tribute to Dave, and a wonderful way for the club to express our gratitude.
Congratulations Dave.!!
Under 15s Triumph
In an outstanding display of good old G and D the Mighty Under 15s were triumphant in their Grand Final clash with Mount Waverley.
After losing the toss and kicking into a Gale Force 10 wind (at least that's what it felt like for the huge Panther crowd assembled) the boys were magnificant in holding the Falcons to three first quarter goals and soaking up plenty of pressure. The second quarter was an even tussle until just before half time when the boys played 5 minutes of explosive football to go in at the main break with the lead. The team was pumped as they left the field to the huge roar of the Panther faithful.
Mount Waverley again kicked ahead in the third quarter but the message at the final break was all positive with a real belief buzzing through the huddle. The first ten minutes of the final quarter was a battle of the half back lines before the boys finally began to take the ascendency. With goals to Jordan Cheppi and Jet Gates the Panthers kept coming and when Jet Gates kicked his second goal of the quarter the game was all ours.
Well done to Andrew and the boys for giving the club a famous day to remember and our first flag in three years. The whole club is extremely proud of you.
